Subject to the statutory consultation process,
approve a permanent traffic Order to designate Ramsgate Stockton,
full length as a pedestrian zone that is; to prohibit waiting at
any time and prohibit all traffic between 9.30am and 4.30pm Monday
to Saturday inclusive. There will be limited specific exceptions
for emergency vehicles, those carrying out essential Statutory
duties or duties on behalf of the Council such as cleansing or
events and also to enable access to the private land on the north
side. The existing traffic Order for Ramsgate will be revoked. It
is proposed to also revoke the traffic Order for the blue badge
holder only bay and introduce at the location a new 24 hour loading
only bay on the east side of West Row, adjacent to the former
Thirteen office at Stratford House.
The proposal has been developed following
requests and ongoing concerns raised by the Town Centres Management
Team and the Council's Civic Enforcement Service regarding safety
issues, vehicle obstruction and conflict between pedestrian and
vehicle movements on Ramsgate. The proposal is intended to support
the safe and efficient operation of the highway and fulfil the
Council's road safety obligations. The proposal was amended
following comments received after business engagement to address
existing safety risks and obstruction on Ramsgate when traffic and
pedestrian movements in the vicinity are typically lighter.
As detailed in the associated report.
